The National President of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria, BBN, Professor Samson Duna, has said that the growing wave of terrorist attacks on churches and Christian communities across the country is politically motivated.
Prof Duna spoke at the end-of-year thanksgiving service of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria and the investiture of three national patrons at the ECWA Goodnews Church, Suleja, Niger State.
According to him, while the persecution of Christians is biblical, churches must now become security-conscious.
The BBN president noted, “Christ said the world will hate Christians, but we must prepare ourselves. Churches must wake up and provide security for worshippers.”
He added that Nigeria’s security challenges cannot be separated from political and economic interests.
“Some are looking for power, some are driven by economic reasons, while others are struggling over land. We cannot rule out the political dimension to these attacks,” Duna noted.
He urged governments at all levels to do more to protect innocent citizens, irrespective of tribe or religion.
Earlier, the President of the Boys Brigade, Niger State Council, and former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, described the attacks on churches as an indictment of leadership.
“If the government cannot protect the people from being attacked and killed, then there will be no moral justification to solicit their votes,” Vatsa said.
