Terrorist attacks: Tinubu must take action or step down – Public affairs expert

A public affairs analyst from Rivers State, Dr. Ile Joseph, has expressed concern about the increasing trend of terrorist attacks and targeted killings directed towards Christians in Nigeria, particularly in the North. He discussed this issue with journalists in Port Harcourt. Joseph stated that Nigerians have suffered from years of severe insecurity and have shown considerable patience with the Federal Government despite ongoing deterioration. He emphasized the need for strong, immediate action to tackle the crisis. As a leader in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Joseph urged President Bola Tinubu to rise to the occasion and fulfill his constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, suggesting that if the President cannot fulfill this responsibility, he should think about resigning. He also called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to quickly organize a National Emergency Conference in response to what he described as an ongoing “genocidal assault.” He highlighted the importance of the Christian community taking a stronger stance in safeguarding vulnerable groups, promoting peace, and assisting victims of violence through humanitarian efforts. He pointed out that national security is essential for economic growth, youth development, investor confidence, and national unity. He warned that without prompt, effective intervention from the government and relevant parties, the country could face consequences that may become “far more catastrophic.” Joseph stated that no society thrives in an environment of fear and instability, emphasizing that restoring trust in Nigeria’s security institutions is both urgent and essential for the country’s future.
