The ADC has responded to the Presidency’s remarks about an ‘overthrow’, stating that Tinubu will be ousted through votes rather than violence.

On Wednesday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stated that President Bola Tinubu will be removed through electoral means, emphasizing their commitment to democracy rather than violence. They rejected claims that they aimed to undermine democracy in Nigeria. ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused Tinubu of creating a climate of repression against opposition figures in response to a tweet by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who had accused the opposition of plotting to overthrow the government. Abdullahi dismissed Onanuga’s assertions as baseless and reckless, arguing that they reveal an intention to intimidate opposition leaders. He reiterated that the ADC is focused on removing Tinubu through democratic processes, not through a coup. The ADC condemned Onanuga’s comments, stating they could lead to a systematic crackdown on opposition and affirmed their commitment to rescuing the nation from what they describe as the government’s severe incompetence. We are not military personnel; we are politicians. We lack firearms; our only weapon is the vote. At the appropriate moment, we will share our solutions and a different perspective on the future with the Nigerian populace, allowing them to decide for themselves.
