Congolese artist Delcat Idengo was killed in Goma, North Kivu, by suspected M23 fighters while he was recording the clip of his latest song “Nos Armes” (“Bunduki za Kwetu”, in Swahili). A title denouncing the actions of the M23, supported by Rwanda, in the region. The exact circumstances of his assassination remain vague, but several local sources evoke an execution by bullet of this engaged and highly followed artist. According to him, “it is because he has dared to question peacefully, through his art, through his talent, through his voice, the military orientations of the M23 and all the crimes they commit against civilians who, unfortunately, he was killed. And this is unacceptable”. According to Stewart Muhindo, the attackers would have made him wear a military uniform to simulate a confrontation, a method already used to justify targeted assassinations. A choice that the organization refuses, defending the nonviolent struggle. According to La Lucha, his “assassination is part of a cycle of impunity that favours the repetition of violence in the DRC”. Le M23 has rejected all responsibility for the death of the artist, claiming that it was a settlement of accounts between different factions of the Wazalendo, a local militia, and the FARDC. Martin Fayulu has also denounced the “assassination”, claiming that “the nation has lost a patriot committed to national cohesion”.
