The collapse of a building in Sédhiou: the non-compliance with the construction standards involved

The tragedy that has shaken the city of Sédhiou could find its origin in serious breaches of the basic rules of construction. This is, in any case, the provisional conclusion of the Governor of the region, Diadia Dia, who visited the site of the disaster to verify the extent of the damage. “The construction standards have not been respected”, declared the administrative authority, pointing in particular to “problems linked to the dosage of cement, the use of iron and the plan of reinforced concrete”. In addition to technical deficiencies which, according to him, considerably weaken the structure of the buildings and increase the risks of collapse. On the spot, the firefighters were joined by numerous inhabitants mobilized to participate in the rescue operations. A popular solidarity that the Governor had to salute, underlining the commitment and compassion manifested by the populations who spontaneously came to lend a hand. The investigation is continuing in order to determine the exact responsibility and to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
