The commune of Diémbéring has a new mayor. His name is Demba Niassy. He was elected yesterday, Thursday 27 November, by the municipal council, in replacement of Léopold Abba Diatta, who died more than a month ago. Meeting in extraordinary session, the municipal councillors of the rural commune of Diémbéring were called upon to ensure the continuity of the local executive after the death of Léopold Abba Diatta, which occurred on 11 October 2025. Of the 46 councillors who make up the municipal team, 45 responded to the call. At the end of the vote, Demba Niassy won with 26 votes against 19 for his opponent, Abdourahmane Diallo, the first deputy who assured the interim. According to a source close to the municipal council, the two candidates for the mayor’s chair, all of whom were on Bennoo bokk Yaakaar’s list, were dispersed by the seven councillors of the Pastef party.
