The European Parliament has adopted a number of resolutions on the subject.

Noting the persistence of tensions over rents, he underlined the urgency of a rigorous analysis of the factors which make housing inaccessible for many households. In his speech, the Head of Government stressed the need to rethink the current mechanisms of regulation based on precise data on the supply and demand of housing. In particular, he put forward the methodology of the surface corrected, a tool which, according to him, should be better applied to guarantee a more just pricing of rents. Beyond the question of prices, Ousmane Sonko pointed to the structural failures that aggravate the housing crisis: a poorly controlled urbanisation, an insufficient urban development policy and the weak implementation of social housing programmes. For him, an effective reform cannot be limited to the mere fixing of rents, but must integrate these fundamental aspects. With this in mind, it instructed the Minister of Commerce, in collaboration with the Secrétaire d’État à l’Urbanisme et au Logement, the Ministre des Finances et du Budget and the Secrétariat général du Gouvernement, to carry out a thorough assessment of the situation in order to propose durable solutions adapted to the realities of the market.
