Bauchi Governor condemns Tinubu’s tax reforms, calls them threat to national unity

Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has sharply condemned the tax reform policies implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, calling them unjust for northern Nigeria. The Governor contended that the reforms appear tailored to advantage certain regions while putting the North at a disadvantage. He expressed these concerns on Wednesday during a visit from the Christian community in Bauchi State, who came to pay their annual Christmas respects. Governor Mohammed called on the Federal Government to reassess its policies to better represent the interests of all Nigerians. He commented, “We are facing serious issues in this country.” Hunger is present everywhere, and many people are experiencing hardship. This tax reform is not just against the North, but also poses a risk to our nation’s unity. “The government needs to pay attention to the citizens. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship or a rule by a small group. Policies should always take into account the well-being of the people before being enforced. He cautioned that the Federal Government’s strategy might result in turmoil. “Ignoring the people’s demands is a recipe for chaos.” These changes are not benefiting northern Nigeria. How can you expect us to pay salaries and construct roads when you are removing our sources of income?
