The H.O.T. Challenge Golf Tournament happening on May 9 aims to gather scholarship money for students throughout Miami-Dade County. (Black PR Wire) MIAMI – The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has increased the number of members on its BHI board of directors to 22, comprising leaders from Miami-Dade County’s education, business, civic, and non-profit sectors (see full list below). The goal of the BHI is to enhance economic engagement and create opportunities for students within Greater Miami’s tourism sector. The tourism and hospitality industry generates over $20 billion each year for Miami-Dade County, highlighting the necessary development of a skilled workforce to fill essential roles in the sector. “Our future relies on cultivating a dynamic and motivated workforce in tourism and hospitality. The new board of directors will devise a strategic plan to offer students the best chances to thrive in Miami-Dade’s leading visitor industry,” stated David Whitaker, President & CEO of GMCVB. The expanded BHI board will focus on efforts like increasing scholarships, establishing workforce training programs, and collaborating with local businesses to create fairer opportunities in Greater Miami’s hospitality field. “Few experiences are as fulfilling as inspiring individuals to embrace new challenges and witnessing their learning, growth, and broader perspectives,” remarked Desmond Alufohai, chair of the BHI board. “This sector links numerous individuals within our community, and our organization’s success will be evaluated based on our ability to discover innovative methods to engage those who might be unaware of the wide range of career paths available in the industry and to inform them about the professional development opportunities they can explore.” To generate scholarship funds that promote career education in tourism and hospitality, BHI is organizing its annual H.O.T. Challenge Golf Tournament on May 9 in Aventura. Taking place at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort and Spa, the H.O.T. Challenge brings together industry leaders for premier golf and networking opportunities. The yearly tournament has a 32-year history of generating over $3.5 million and granting 450 scholarships to students aiming for careers in hospitality within Miami-Dade County.
