The inaugural edition is scheduled to take place on September 25 in Ile-Ife. The historic city of Ile-Ife is preparing to launch the first-ever Ife Road Race on September 25, 2025, marking a lively event that combines athletics, culture, and community advancement. The 5-kilometer race, planned to align with the renowned Olojo Festival, aims to identify and foster untapped athletic potential, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and celebrate the vibrant Yoruba culture. It is referred to as the Ife Road Race, inspired by aspirations for youth empowerment. Initiated by Sooko Adeleke Odewade, a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, the event seeks to harness the power of sports as a means of driving change. “Odewade pointed out that our society does not provide sufficient opportunities for identifying and nurturing talent.” “This competition serves as a means to discover untapped potential, but it will go beyond that.” We are creating a framework for ongoing coaching, mentoring, and support that continues well after the race concludes. Supported by the Ooni of Ife, this event is designed for runners of all skill levels.
