The Kano government attributes the increase in gang violence to political adversaries and promises to take steps to address the situation.

The Kano State Government is alarmed by the increasing occurrences of violent gang confrontations in Kano city and nearby areas, leading to fatalities and heightened anxiety among locals. The administration attributes this unrest to political sabotage, alleging that certain opposition leaders are intentionally inciting the violence to undermine the government’s credibility. This information was shared during a live radio broadcast called “Gwamnati da Jama’a” on Rahma Radio by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman claimed that some politicians were responsible for funding youth gangs as part of a strategic political plan. “The government is taking action and not remaining passive.” The commissioner stated that we are taking significant measures to confront this issue by providing the youth with productive engagement through job opportunities and educational access. He further reassured the community of the government’s determination to restore peace, noting that a specialized committee established by the state government, led by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, is diligently working to enhance security in the state. It is important to recall that several gang-related conflicts, including phone theft incidents, resulted in the deaths of at least two young individuals in Kano city between Wednesday night and Saturday morning. This violence has instilled fear among residents and disrupted daily life in various neighborhoods. Tajuddeen emphasized that protecting lives and property continues to be a key priority for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a commitment he made prior to taking office.
