The lawyers of the columnist Abdou Nguer, detained for nearly six months in the prison of Rebeuss, have officially approached the Procureur de la République before the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Dakar to request the registration of his dossier and the fixing of an audience. In a letter dated 11 September 2025, signed by Me Baba Diop, the defence denounces an “unjustified delay” in the treatment of the case, while the instruction has been closed for nearly a month. Abdou Nguer, SenTV columnist and political analyst known for his critical interventions towards the government, was arrested on 14 April 2025 by the gendarmerie. He is accused of disseminating false news, offending the head of state and apologizing for crime, on the basis of five videos and a controversial TikTok post that he denied having published. Placed under arrest on 17 April, he had his request for provisional release rejected in May, despite the protests of his lawyers who underline the absence of solid evidence linking their client to the incriminated content. In the correspondence addressed to the Prosecutor, Me Baba Diop recalls that the proceedings, instructed by the judge of the 3rd cabinet, portent sur des infractions supposées commises lors d’interventions dans diverses émissions. “The judge has closed the said proceedings for a month soon and has forwarded them to you”, writes the lawyer, with reference to the numbers RI 31/40 and RI 40/25 of box 3e.
