The former glory of the Senegalese struggle, Mohamed Ndiaye, also known as Robert Diouf, died this Friday, after a long illness. Born on 3 February 1942 in Senegal, he has marked the history of this sport. In his time, he won the gold medal of the African Wrestling Championships in 1969, as well as the silver medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling in 1971. Robert Diouf also represented Senegal at the 1972 Munich Olympics (in wrestling) and the 1976 Montreal Olympics (in wrestling). A Catholic, Robert converted to Islam in 1977, at the height of his fame, and took the name Mohamed Ndiaye. He was also a generous director who accompanied the rise of Manga 2, which became le Roi des arènes. He was also part of the technical staff of the grand champion Yékini. Apart from wrestling, Robert Ndiaye was a self-defense and judo coach for many years at the National Police.
