The Plateau Youth Council has accused bandits of committing genocide as they continue to attack communities.

The Plateau Youth Council (PYC) has condemned what it calls genocidal attacks after suspected Fulani militias assaulted numerous communities in the Chakfem chiefdom of Mangu Local Government Area on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of over ten individuals and injuries to others. The assault, which reportedly lasted all night, also led to the destruction of homes, businesses, and food storages. In a statement jointly issued by Ephraim Prep and Joshua Gabriel Goholput, the PYC Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Chakfem Chiefdom, respectively, they expressed sorrow that despite the government’s continuous promises of enhanced security, armed Fulani militias still carried out these attacks without fear of repercussions. The PYC identified the affected communities as Jin/Tim, Manden, Jibilang, Jibin Mudihin, Jilem, and Koppang, noting that the bandits attacked simultaneously, shooting wildly and burning down properties. In a statement obtained by DAILY POST, the PYC expressed their grief over the events, highlighting that this attack has plunged the communities into mourning. They emphasized that these assaults result in tragic loss of life and the destruction of property, representing not merely isolated incidents, but a troubling trend that suggests an attempt at genocide against their population. “This heinous act is part of a concerning pattern aimed at the annihilation of our people,” the council stated. “We unequivocally denounce this savage attack.” There is no reason or complaint that can excuse the deliberate killing of innocent people. Every life taken signifies a dream gone, a family fractured, and a wound on our nation’s conscience. “Besides the tangible devastation, these systematic and ongoing assaults plant fear and discord, jeopardizing the harmony and togetherness we have diligently strived to maintain. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to the families of those affected. We share in the sorrow of the families and feel their pain. Each life that is taken is a deep hurt to our community, and every home that is ruined is an attack on our shared future. “Their suffering is our suffering, and the sorrow they feel resonates with everyone in the Chakfem Chiefdom.” We encourage them to stay strong in their beliefs, trusting that justice will ultimately be served. “We appeal to law enforcement to respond quickly and effectively. Those responsible for this atrocious act, which amounts to genocide against vulnerable communities, must face consequences. “Failing to deliver justice will only encourage more violence.” Justice is essential; it is a prerequisite for maintaining peace.
