​The President of the Republic at the meeting “In defence of democracy: combating extremism” 

  The President of the Republic took part in a high-level meeting in the framework of the international initiative “In defence of democracy: combating extremism”. This event, which brought together the leaders of several nations, was held in the presence of the Presidents of Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Albania, as well as the Head of the Spanish Government. The objective of this initiative was to promote concrete strategies to strengthen democratic values in the face of the rise of extremism in the world. During the meeting, the President of the Republic reaffirmed his country’s commitment to defending the fundamental principles of democracy, such as freedom of expression, the rule of law and respect for human rights. In his speech, he underlined the importance of international cooperation in countering extremist discourses and ideologies that threaten the stability of democratic institutions. “Democracy is a precious but fragile commodity. It requires constant vigilance and collective action to protect it from the forces that seek to divide it”, declared le Président, insisting on the need to promote inclusion and dialogue to defuse tensions. The initiative “In defence of democracy: combating extremism” aims to unite the efforts of nations engaged in the fight against extremist ideologies, whether political, religious or social.
