The President of the Republic, Mr. Antacar Baba Ngom, strongly denounces the law of interpretation of the amnesty of 2024

The deputy and president of the Alternative pour la Relève Citoyenne (ARC), Anta Babacar Ngom, has strongly condemned the imminent adoption of the 2024 amnesty interpretation law, which she calls a real “democratic regression”. In a statement published on social networks, she believes that this text goes against the deep aspirations of the Senegalese people, in search of rupture and justice. “I reject this political manipulation, this détournement du droit in favour of a disguised vengeance”, she said, denouncing an approach contrary to the principles of transparency and equity. In view of what it considers to be an unjust law, Anta Babacar Ngom calls for its abrogation pure et simple and proposes, in alternative, the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This initiative would, according to her, create a climate of dialogue and peaceful justice, and at the same time strengthen national cohesion. It thus calls on all political, religious, citizens and civil society actors to “choose together truth, forgiveness and reconciliation rather than division and political reckoning”. His appeal comes in a context marked by intense debates and contrasting reactions within the political class as well as public opinion, testifying to the deep expectations in matters of governance and justice in Senegal.
