The Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, will pay an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 33 to 12 September 2025, informs the Government Information and Communication Bureau. A major mission which is part of the continuity of the government’s policy of economic and social recovery, embodied in the “Jubbanti Koom” programme. After China and Turkey, this new move testifies to the will of the Senegalese government to strengthen its relations with the economic and diplomatic powers beyond the continent. The Head of Government will be received by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Federation and Emir of Abu Dhabi. The links between Senegal and the United Arab Emirates do not date from yesterday. Since the 1970s, cooperation between the two countries has gradually intensified, moving from humanitarian aid to structuring economic, technological and educational partnerships. In December 2024, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye himself paid an official visit to the UAE, laying the foundations for enhanced cooperation in key areas: energy, agriculture, infrastructure, technologies and education. The visit of Ousmane Sonko therefore comes in a favourable context and brings concrete opportunities for the two nations. A federation composed of seven emirates, the UAE is distinguished in the Gulf region by its political stability, diplomatic pragmatism and economic dynamism. Historically dependent on oil, the Emirates have succeeded in diversifying their economy by developing sectors such as tourism, finance, advanced technologies and renewable energies. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are emerging today as major commercial and logistics hubs on a global scale.
