On Thursday, 20 March 2025, Showmax will discharge two new shows of Steinheist. This is a video series that delves into the largest commercial incident in North American history.
This comes only a day before the second anniversary of Markus Jooste’s horrible death.
THE STEINHEIST SCANDAL
Jooste, the former CEO of Steinhoff, was at the centre of a financial storm that wiped out over R200 billion from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange ( JSE).
This disturbed many South Africans ‘ retirement and opportunities.
In December 2017, Steinhoff’s share price plummeted by 90 % in a week following Jooste’s resignation amid investigations into accounting abnormalities, according to IMDB.
This occurrence was likened to South Africa’s Enron, highlighting the intensity of the incident.
THE FALL OF STEINHOFF
Steinhoff, when a financial giant owning manufacturers like Ackermans and PEP, saw its value dissolve almost immediately.
Steinheist, produced by IdeaCandy, the makers of Devilsdorp, is a gripping three-part line that originally aired in 2022.
It has now expanded to include two more shows, exploring the fallout of Jooste’s withdrawal and the continuous pursuit of justice, according to Showmax Stories.
Director Richard Finn Gregory information,” The wheels of justice have been turning”, reflecting on the advancement made since the show’s first release.
Next Bouts
The latest shows, 4 and 5, pick up where the narrative left off.
They detail major improvements, including the arrest of R1.4 billion of Jooste’s property by the Reserve Bank.
They also depth his R15 million excellent and 20-year restrictions from the JSE, and a history R475 million good from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority.
The episodes even cover Jooste’s attainment by European authorities and his subsequent police summons. Despite Jooste’s crossing, the story continues.
A CHESS GAME
Former Steinhoff professional Stéhan Grobler was arrested soon after Jooste’s suicide. R60 million in assets were seized from Bernice Odendaal, Jooste’s reported lady.
The new shows delve into inside buying trials in South Africa, scam beliefs in Germany, and the punishment of Ben la Grange, Steinhoff’s past CFO, according to Cherry Flava.
Alec Hogg, director of BizNews, aptly describes the situation as a game game. ” The sport is not over. There are still other pieces on the board.
That’s the great question: ‘ Who are the accomplices?'” Christo Wiese, Steinhoff’s past head, agrees, stating,” We all accepted that he couldn’t do it only”.
THE SECOND INSTALMENT OF STEINHEIST
The next instalment of Steinheist functions conversations with key numbers. These include Lesetja Kganyago, government of the South African Reserve Bank, and Zwelakhe Mnguni.
Mnguni brought the first legal case against Jooste. Rob Rose, writer of Steinheist, also shares his insight.
Episode 5 concludes with a crucial question: how can such commercial frauds be prevented in the future?
Khaya Sithole, an officer and activist, warns,” People should not be allowed to left under the impression that it will never occur again. We didn’t notice this one coming. That means we definitely can’t see the next one coming unless we do things different”.
THE SAFTAS AND STEINHEIST
Steinheist has received widespread admiration, becoming the most-nominated film at the SAFTAs.
Director Richard Finn Gregory and maker Elle Oosthuizen won the Sanlam Group Financial Journalist of the Year award for their labor on the line.
As the new shows of Steinheist launch, they serve as a stark warning of the disastrous consequences of corporate greed. It also highlights the importance of transparency.
