Lutango Street residents in Vergenoeg, Kwa-Thema honoured their late neighbour through a family fun day.

Kwa-Thema – Lutango Street residents in Masimini, Kwa-Thema, held their third annual family fun day on March 1.
The event aims to encourage unity within their area of residence while forming an understanding of one another. The street, known as Boulevard Street, is appreciated for annual events and indigenous games.
“We are a street that supports one another and encourages healthy bonds among our children. We sometimes go weeks and months without seeing each other. These events also allow us to share stories and opportunities and to reunite and rekindle priceless moments.
“More than anything, the event is directed towards our children. Every child is comfortable enough to request assistance from any adult in our street.
“During the event, we give educational talks to the children based on substance abuse, humanity and other social issues,” said a resident Kagiso Motlhabi.
Motlhabi said the street raised funds for their local aftercare programme owned by a resident, Naledi Lentle. He added that Lentle’s programme needed study materials, chairs, desks and other educational materials.
“Her programme has helped educate different children and has helped parents as well. The best way to help her is to contribute to the growth of her beautiful and fruitful venture,” he added.
Another resident, Nobomi Marabe, said their event also honours their late neighbour, who passed away last year.
“Boy Mazaza named our street Boulevard. He would jokily tell us he would make us a beach and add boats and lots of trees for us to catch up under the trees. We remember him as a fun and bubbly individual who loved life,” she said.
Lentle mentioned from the money raised they could give party packs to the children, organised jumping castles and food for everyone. She alluded that people from other streets joined in the fun-filled day.
“We played different games. This enabled everyone to display their strengths and abilities,” she mentioned.
The residents requested sponsorship towards their annual event, citing the support would enable them to incorporate other ideas into the fun day.
