The SYTJUST pays tribute to the Senegalese journalists

On the occasion of the International Day of Press Freedom celebrated on 3 May 2025, the Syndicat des Travailleurs de la Justice (SYTJUST) has addressed a strong message of recognition to all media professionals in Senegal. In a communiqué made public, the SYTJUST warmly congratulates the women and men of the press who, “at the cost of multiple sacrifices”, work every day to guarantee a free, pluralistic and responsible access to information. The trade union underlines the importance of the role played by the Senegalese press, in particular in a context marked by major democratic challenges both at national and international level. “The press contributes actively to the strengthening of the rule of law, the consolidation of democracy, the promotion of freedom of expression and the defence of human rights”, underlined SYTJUST. The trade union has also praised the professionalism, resilience and independence of the press organs that accompany, with rigor and ethics, the citizens’ struggles for a fair, transparent and accessible justice for all. The SYTJUST reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the media for the defence of fundamental freedoms and the promotion of a healthy, informed public space respectful of democratic principles.
