The Tribunal des flagrants délits de Pikine-Guédiawaye has rendered its verdict in the case of the spectacular race-pursuit that occurred on 20 April 2025 on the autoroute à péage, à hauteur de Sips. Two truck drivers, Makhma Nianthio Sané and Mbacké Diouf, were charged with acts that seriously endangered public safety. Makhma Nianthio Sané, convicted of having deliberately struck his colleague’s truck before fleeing in the direction of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, was prosecuted for endangering the life of another person, the crime of flight and damage to the movable property of another person. His co-defendant, Mbacké Diouf, was also prosecuted for endangering the lives of others. The two defendants admitted the facts at the hearing. The prosecutor had requested severe sentences: three years’ imprisonment, a fine of two million CFA francs, the cancellation of the driving licence and a ban on driving for five years for Makhma Nianthio Sané. In the case of Mbacké Diouf, the public prosecutor’s office had requested two years’ imprisonment, a fine of 500 000 CFA francs and a suspension of his licence for six months. The court has finally sentenced Makhma Nianthio Sané to three years of prison, a fine of one million CFA francs, the annulment of his driving licence and the prohibition to apply for a new one for five years. As for Mbacké Diouf, he was sentenced to six months of prison ferme and to a suspension of his driving licence for a duration of six months.
