The UK and Mauritius are nearing the completion of a significant agreement to restore sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, which includes the strategically important US base at Diego Garcia, following the endorsement from the Trump administration. According to the draft agreement reached in October, the UK will rent Diego Garcia for a minimum of 99 years. The UK is on the verge of transferring the Chagos Islands, with support from the United States for the agreement.
