‘They’re following what you taught them’ — Odinkalu mocks Malami

Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticised former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami over his recent claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is acting politically in its dealings with him.

In a post on X on Sunday, Odinkalu described Malami as a “grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General” during his tenure.

He added that if Malami now believes the EFCC is politicised, he should remember that “they’re following what he taught them.”

“Someone should tell Abubakar Malami to please sit this out. He was a grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General,” Odinkalu wrote.

“If he’s now complaining that EFCC is political, they should tell him that they’re following what he taught them. They have no need to deny it.”

Odinkalu’s comments came after Malami accused the EFCC of revoking his bail because he attended a political rally in Kebbi State.

However, the EFCC stated that Malami had not met the five conditions attached to his provisional bail and described his claims as “untenable.”

The commission emphasised that it operates apolitically and urged Malami to focus on fulfilling his bail requirements instead of raising what it called “bogus claims.”

Malami is currently under investigation for alleged money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing, and has insisted that he did not default on any bail conditions.
