Tinubu reconstitutes NERC Board 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy,Bayo Onanuga.

Under the new composition, Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the Commission.

Oseni, who joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed his new role on December 1, 2025.

His appointment will run until the completion of his 10-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr Yusuf Ali was appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission. Ali, who became a Commissioner in February 2022, took up the vice chairmanship on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti and Mr Dafe Akpeneye, who are both serving second terms as Commissioners after their initial appointments in January 2017.

Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is also serving a second term, having first been appointed in December 2020.

Dr Chidi Ike, first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, continues his service on the board, while Dr Fouad Animashaun joins as a Commissioner for his first term, effective December 2025.

Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in the power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has tasked the newly constituted board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict adherence to the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
