The announcement of the creation of a garbage dump in the commune of Tobor has provoked strong opposition among its inhabitants, who fear the environmental and health consequences of such a project. Faced with this challenge, the populations have decided to turn to the courts to make their voices heard. As part of this approach, letters of formal notice were sent to the mayors of the municipalities of Ziguinchor and Niamone to obtain clarifications on the modalities and justifications of the project. A judicial officer has also been instructed to draw up a minutes of the proceedings, a procedure prior to any judicial action. The judicial authorities, including the Tribunal de Ziguinchor and the Cour suprême, could be called upon to settle this dispute if the negotiations do not lead to a solution satisfactory to the inhabitants. The residents of Tobor insist on the need for a constructive dialogue with the local authorities, but also demand clear guarantees regarding the environmental impact of the project. They wish that public health and the preservation of their living environment be prioritised in any final decision. The Echoes
