Touba: five cases of collapse of buildings in two years (maire)

The collapse of a R+4 building under construction in Touba caused three deaths and several injuries in a nearby dwelling. According to the mayor, this is the fifth collapse in less than two years. The tragedy occurred in Touba Darou Miname, where a four-storey building collapsed on a neighbouring house. The preliminary report states that three people died and two were injured. They were removed from the rubble by the firefighters before being evacuated to Matlaboul Fawzeyni Hospital. According to the mayor of Touba, Abdou Lahad Ka, the religious city has registered five building collapses in less than two years. He calls for a rapid reaction to this black series. “The same tragedy risks repeating itself if nothing is done”, he warned, underlining the proliferation of construction sites in the city. In this dynamic, he stresses the importance of obtaining a building permit, a document which, according to him, the inhabitants of Touba often neglect.
