Stupeur and indignation reigned in Khayra 2, a district of Touba, after two fatal accidents in less than 24 hours. This Monday, a 15-year-old was hit by a tanker truck, bringing to two the number of victims in a single day. The day before, a 5-year-old child had already lost his life after being run over by a water truck. In the face of this increase in accidents involving heavy goods vehicles, the inhabitants express their anger and denounce the excessive speed at which these vehicles circulate as well as the carriage drivers crossing the quarter without precautions. “These chauffeurs roulent sans se soucier des piétons, c’est devenu insupportable”, s’indigne un riverain.. “It is not easy to be a chauffeur without a driver, it is not easy to be a chauffeur without a driver”. Tensions rise in the neighborhood, where residents demand urgent measures to secure the streets. “If nothing is done, we will take matters into our own hands”, warn some inhabitants, determined to let this situation continue. The authorities are now called upon to put in place effective solutions to prevent further tragedies.
