Touba: Ousmane Sonko inaugurated two new hydraulic works in the Grand Magal

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko visited Touba, the capital of Mouridism, on Saturday, 2 August 2025, to inaugurate new hydraulic infrastructure to strengthen the drinking water supply of the religious city. Accompanied by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, and several technical officials, including Serigne Mbacké Dieng, Director General of the Office des Forages Ruraux (OFOR), the Head of Government visited in particular the all-new forage of Darou Marnane. With a production capacity of 250 cubic metres per hour, this facility meets the growing needs of the inhabitants and pilgrims, particularly at the approach of the Magal. The Grand Magal de Touba, which commemorates the departure in exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, founder of Mouridism, constitutes one of the largest religious gatherings in the country. Every year, it attracts more than five million faithful from Senegal and the diaspora, exerting a strong pressure on the infrastructure of reception and water supply. By this action, the Government intends to reaffirm its commitment to sustainable improvement of access to drinking water and to ensuring better conditions of hygiene and public health during this event of international significance.
