Traffic in counterfeit medicines: seven illegal deposits dismantled in Thiaroye

The National Brigade for the Fight against Piracy and Counterfeiting (BNLPC), in close collaboration with the Agency for Pharmaceutical Regulation (ARP), carried out a large-scale operation on the Thiaroye market on Monday, 2 June 2025, resulting in the dismantling of seven illegal deposits and the seizure of twenty-six (26) bags of fake medicines. This action is part of the resolute fight waged by the Senegalese authorities against illicit drug trafficking, a criminal, health and economic phenomenon. According to the services of the BNLPC, the seized products were intended to be sold on the parallel market, exposing the population to serious health risks. “This operation aims to protect the health of citizens and to clean up the distribution circuit of medicines”, the authorities stressed in their communiqué, recalling that the consumption of counterfeit medicines can lead to irreversible, even fatal, effects. The BNLPC and the ARP reaffirmed their joint commitment to intensify controls, dismantle criminal networks and bring the perpetrators of such trafficking to justice.
