The Brigade de surveillance, d’interpellation et de filature of the Direction nationale de la lutte contre le trafic (Dnlt) has arrested, in the night of Friday 19 September 2025 at around 23 hours, sixteen (16) candidates for irregular emigration and a passer-by on the quai de Missirah, a village in Senegal located in the southwest of the country. The suspect, identified as Ousmane Seydi, was embarking the migrants aboard a canoe for a night journey to Bétenty. It was subsequently established that he was the director of the Betenty 1 primary school. According to L’Observateur, the majority of the intercepted candidates are of Gambian nationality. During their audition, they stated that they had been recruited for this trip by some of their compatriots who remained in The Gambia. They claimed to have paid their financial contribution to two individuals designated as the main organisers: Ousmane Sarr, alias ” Ansou “, and Adama Ndour, alias ” Klaro “. According to the testimonies, the organizers had communicated to the migrants the telephone number of Ousmane Seydi as being the one of their contact in Missirah, responsible for facilitating the last stage of the journey to Bétenty. Ousmane Seydi initially denied any involvement, claiming that his number had been communicated without his knowledge.
