Tribunal de Pikine-Guédiawaye: an émigré died after his conviction

A 56 year old emigrant, A. The second. Mbengue was found dead on Thursday at the Tribunal de grande instance de Pikine-Guédiawaye, a few moments after his conviction. He had suffered from asthma and had been given a six-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay 4.5 million CFA francs in damages and interest in a case of “abuse of trust” in connection with a property transaction. According to L’Observateur, the dossier concerned the sale of a disputed land to Darou Thioub. Mbengue, who acted as an intermediary, had facilitated the acquisition on behalf of his relatives, the Mboup-Dione couple. But after the demolition of their construction, the latter had accused him of having induced them into error. Weakened during the whole hearing, the émigré collapsed à deux reprises leaving the hall. While he was being brought to the prison of Rebeuss, he succumbed to a malaise.
