Troops foil robbery, rescue kidnap victims in Taraba 

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have thwarted a robbery attack, rescuing abducted travellers and recovering arms in separate missions in Taraba State.

The incident, according to a statement made available to journalists on Monday by the acting spokesperson of the Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, occurred on the 6 December, 2025, in Manya, Takum local government council of the state.

“On 6 December, 2025, soldiers deployed in Manya responded to a distress call after armed robbers blocked the Manya–Takum Road and began dispossessing travellers.

“The troops launched a rapid clearance operation, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon their weapons. An AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered. Their intervention restored safety and movement along the busy route”, the troops said.

The army also confirmed that the troops in Kufai Amadu in Takum council, also rescued two abducted men following reports that four travellers from Bauchi State had been kidnapped inside Amadu Town while seeking directions en route to Baissa in Kurmi local government council.

“According to preliminary findings, two of the men identified as Mr Musa Danji and Mr. Yusuf were taken away by their abductors towards New City.

“Coordinated search operations in the area led to the rescue of two others, Mr Yusuf Musa and Mr Muhammed Umar, who escaped from captivity. Search efforts for the remaining hostages are ongoing, and the military says it is intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators”, the army explained.

Troops in Iware, Ardo-Kola local government council, were also confirmed to have recovered weapons and arrested two suspects during an intelligence-led operation on 6 December in Garin Sambo, Tau Village.

“Soldiers seized two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles and four mobile phones.

“Two men identified as Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda were taken into custody over alleged illegal possession of arms. The suspects and recovered items remain in military custody for further investigation”, the statement read.

Overwhelmed by the development, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the professionalism and swift response of the troops.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across Taraba, assuring residents and commuters of heightened security throughout the Yuletide season.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing peace and security efforts in the state.
