US President Donald Trump, on Monday, announced a significant increase in tariffs on South Korean imports, raising the rate from 15% to 25%.
This decision was communicated through a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump criticized South Korea for failing to honor its commitments under the bilateral trade agreement.
He stated that the South Korean legislature has not enacted both countriesā āHistoric Trade Agreement,ā which is completely their choice.
As a result, he increased āSouth Korean TARIFFS on Autos, Lumber, Pharma, and all other Reciprocal TARIFFS to 25%.ā
This escalation follows an earlier imposition of 10% tariffs after Trump declared an economic emergency, circumventing the need for Congressional approval.
Meanwhile, the timing of this latest tariff hike comes amid growing concerns as South Korea, Canada, and other traditional U.S. allies show increased willingness to collaborate with China in light of Trumpās controversial āAmerica Firstā agenda.
