Tuesday Night Horror: 2 Women, Male Driver Perish In Pietermaritzburg Car Crash

Pietermaritzburg – Three people – two women and a man – died in a car crash in the Inkanyezini area near Lion Park just outside Pietermaritzburg.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the horror crash occurred on Tuesday, 23 December 2025.

He said ALS Paramedics were alerted about the crash around 09:15 pm.

On arrival, paramedics were informed that a vehicle had crashed over the barrier protecting a water pump and landed in the local river.

“Brave bystanders entered the flowing river to assist and managed to pull two females from the wreckage and brought them to the river banks,” Jamieson said.

“Paramedics assessed the two females, believed to be in their 20s and 30s; however, they showed no signs of life and were declared deceased on the scene.

“The male driver, believed to be in his 30s, was entrapped in the vehicle, which was submerged in the river.”

SA Police Service Search and Rescue Units from Pietermaritzburg extracted the driver and recovered the vehicle.

“The driver was also declared deceased on the scene,” Jamieson said.

Police are investigating the cause of the deadly crash.
