A former director of football for Besiktas, Önder Özen, believes that Victor Osimhen is the greatest striker in Turkiye and in the region.
He made these remarks on the Neo Spor YouTube channel following Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Besiktas in the Istanbul derby on Saturday.
Osimhen emerged as the standout player of the derby, scoring the decisive goal with a header shortly after the half-hour mark.
The ex-African Footballer of the Year is in exceptional form, having either scored or assisted in each of his last eight matches for the Turkish champions in the Süper Lig, equaling his career-best goal contribution first achieved at Napoli in 2023.
Önder Özen emphasized that Osimhen’s performance has been remarkably impressive, underscoring the significant role he played in Galatasaray’s hard-fought victory over Besiktas.
“Let us begin from Bavaria and move to our region; Osimhen is the greatest striker in this area. He has contributed significantly in both offensive and defensive aspects.
“He also disrupted the connections Beşiktaş established from defense to midfield. He obstructed Beşiktaş’s fluidity,” Özen was quoted as stating by habersarikirmizi.com.
Osimhen has also proven to be a formidable challenge for defenses in the UEFA Champions League, scoring seven goals prior to Galatasaray’s round of 16 match against Liverpool.
Going into the round of 16 games, Kylian Mbappé leads the log with 13 goals, Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon (8), and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (8).
All the players mentioned play for clubs in Europe’s top five leagues.
