The Ambassador of Senegal to Turkey, Moustapha Sokhna Diop, announced that Turkish private investors are planning to finance projects in the energy sector in Senegal for an estimated amount of 9 billion dollars, or about 5 000 billion FCFA. “We are talking about several billion dollars of investments that are expected from the Turkish private sector. For the energy sector alone, we are talking about nearly 9 billion dollars, not counting the projects in agriculture, construction and industrial development”, said the diplomat in an interview with the Agence de Presse Sénégalaise (APS). This declaration was made on Sunday, on the sidelines of the Senegalese-Turkish Business Forum organized in Istanbul by the Association of Private Businessmen of Turkey, the Council of Foreign Economic Relations (DEIK) and the Senegalese Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works (APIX). The event brought together 300 businessmen, including some 50 from Senegal. Several investment proposals, in the form of public-private partnerships (PPP) or direct investments in structural projects, have been mentioned. These initiatives, according to M. Diop, we should not add to the burden of public debt.. Interested investors will be received shortly in Dakar by the ministers concerned in order to continue the discussions and to examine more in detail their projects.
