Two Police Officers Shot Dead In Ivory Park, Sparking Manhunt For Cop Killers

Johannesburg – Two police officers have been shot dead in Ivory Park, Johannesburg, prompting a manhunt for the cop killers.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said a sergeant and a constable were on duty when they were accosted by unknown persons, who disarmed the police officers before fatally shooting them.

The deadly incident occurred on Friday, 28 November 2025.

“Two members, a sergeant and a constable, both attached to the Ivory Park Police Station, were busy conducting crime prevention duties at Ivory Park extension 9 when they were fatally shot by unknown suspects,” said Brigadier Mathe.

“The suspects fled the scene with two SAPS [SA Police Service] pistols, an SAPS rifle and two cellphones.”

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, who visited the scene on Friday evening, has since appointed a team of seasoned detectives and specialised units to find the killers and recover the state firearms.

National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, has directed Lieutenant General Mthombeni to ensure the mobilisation of maximum resources to hunt down two criminals who disarmed two on-duty police officers before shooting them dead.

General Masemola warned that attacks and the killing of police officers who are on and off duty undermine the authority of the state.

He said between April and September this year, six police officers were killed in the line of duty.

“We are doing everything possible as management to ensure members are always operationally ready to respond to the call of duty by providing them with resources and ensuring they attend refresher courses and regular maintenance shooting exercises.

“To all our law enforcement officers out there, don’t die with the resources that we have given you,” stated General Masemola.

“Always be vigilant and act decisively when your life or the lives of the communities we serve are under threat.”

Anyone with information on this incident or the whereabouts of these suspects is encouraged to call 0860010111 or the Ivory Park station commander, Brigadier Ngcobo, on 0764112314.
