Two teenagers drown while escaping suspected phone snatchers in Kano 

Two 18-year-old youths, Sadiq Isyaku and Auwal Isyaku, have drowned after falling into an open water body while trying to escape from suspected phone snatchers in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that the incident took place on Friday at about 4:04 pm at Ring Road, Kureken Sani.

According to him, an emergency call was received at the agency’s control room from one Muhammed Abba, who reported the incident.

He stated that a rescue team from the service headquarters was immediately mobilised to the scene upon receiving the call, adding that on arrival the team discovered that two 18-year-old youths, Sadiq Isyaku and Auwal Isyaku, had fallen into an open water body.

He added, “The victims were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead, their bodies were handed over to their father, Ibrahim Shehu, of Unguwa Uku Quarters.”

He stated that preliminary information indicated that at the time the incident occurred, the victims were trying to escape from suspected phone snatchers who were pursuing them.

The statement explained that they accidentally fell into the pond in the process.
