U.S wheat shipment worth $15m arrives in LagosĀ

A ship carrying 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States, valued at about $15 million, arrived at Apapa Port in Lagos on Monday.

The delivery again shows Nigeria’s role as the third-largest buyer of American wheat.

U.S. Consul General Rick Swart and U.S. Agricultural Counselor Chris Bielecki were at the port to watch the cargo being offloaded.

According to U.S. officials, the shipment reflects the fast-growing agricultural partnership between both countries

They said trade in American farm products ā€œsupports U.S. farmers, helps Nigerian companies grow their food-processing capacity, creates jobs, and provides quality ingredients for consumers.ā€

Bilateral agricultural trade between Nigeria and the U.S. is expected to be more than double this year, with projections showing it could pass $700m in 2025.

They also noted that the continued arrival of U.S. wheat in Nigeria demonstrates the strong commercial relationship and the importance of agriculture in the wider U.S.-Nigeria economic ties.
