UCL: Gerrard slams two Real Madrid players after 2-1 defeat to Man City

Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, has slammed two Real Madrid stars following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Madrid took the lead through Rodrygo in the first half, before Nico O’Reilly equalized from a corner kick.

Erling Haaland then converted from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Antonio Rudiger.

Gerrard was highly critical of Madrid’s defending, calling out Alvaro Carreras for his role in City’s opener and describing Rudiger’s foul for the Haaland penalty as “stupid”.

“The keeper [Thibaut Courtois] is poor with the save but Carreras… you cannot allow a player that space in the box,” Gerrard said on TNT Sports.

“Carreras is looking around the stadium – I don’t know what he’s looking for because his man has got two or three yards of space to tap into the goal.

“It’s stupid [from Rudiger]. Xabi Alonso has a huge problem because Man City are winning this game and haven’t got out of second gear.”
