UCL: Guardiola sets record after Man City lost to Real Madrid

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola set an unwanted record on Wednesday after his side’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg defeat to Real Madrid.

The Spaniard watched as Real Madrid thrashed the Cityzens 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Federico Valverde scored the three goals of the encounter in Spain to give the Spanish LaLiga giants a first-leg advantage ahead of the return leg next week.

However, according to OptaJoe, the outcome of the match means Guardiola has now suffered his joint-heaviest defeat in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie, along with 3-0 defeats to Barcelona in the 2014-15 semi-finals and Liverpool in the 2017-18 quarter-finals.

Guardiola’s men will now shift their attention to the Premier League as they prepare to face West Ham United this weekend.
