Former Arsenal defender, Martin Keown has identified Noni Madueke as the player who transformed the Gunners against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie on Wednesday.
Keown praised Madueke’s dynamic performance after he came on as a substitute for Bukayo Saka in the second half.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with a late penalty from Kai Havertz securing a first-leg advantage for the Premier League leaders.
“The team started the second half very sloppy, and Arteta’s decision to substitute Saka—who was not at his best [was pivotal],” Keown said on TNT Sports.
“Madueke with that driving run getting the penalty, he was so dynamic when he came on, and I think he transformed Arsenal on that right-hand side.”
Arsenal will face Bayer Leverkusen again next week in the return leg at the Emirates Stadium.
