UCL: Real Madrid take fresh decision on sacking Alonso after 2-1 defeat to Man City

Xabi Alonso will have one more chance to prove himself at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Marca.

It was expected that the former Spain midfielder would be sacked after their defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

However, Real Madrid have decided to give him more time to turn things around.

Los Blancos keep falling down the tables both in LaLiga and the Champions League, with just two wins in their last eight games.

They were beaten 2-1 by Premier League giants, Manchester City on Wednesday with Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland securing victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

There were reports in the build-up to the game against City that the former Liverpool man could lose his job should Real Madrid suffer another defeat against Manchester City.

Alonso and his boys were jeered off for the second home match in a row following a shock 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo at the weekend.

And now Marca reports that those in charge of the LaLiga giants will give Alonso more time to find a solution to the problem and bring the club back to winning ways.

Real Madrid are still in the automatic qualification zone in the Champions League table, sitting seventh, with the top-eight teams in Europe qualifying.

A number of Real Madrid players came out to show support to Alonso after the Man City loss.
