UEMOA ranking: Discover the great performance made by the Sonko government

The latest ranking published by the Chandler Institute of Governance and relayed by the Ecofin agency places Senegal at the forefront of government efficiency among the countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), thus confirming a trend towards institutional consolidation and the improvement of public governance. According to this study, Senegal ranks not only first in the UEMOA space, but also at the 8th place on the continental scale, ahead of countries such as Côte d’Ivoire (10th in Africa, 2nd in the UEMOA) and Benin (13th in Africa, 3rd regionally). This performance is the result of a combination of factors: institutional stability, transparency in the management of public affairs, coherent public policies and effective mobilization of resources. The report highlights in particular the recent efforts of the Senegalese government in the field of digitisation of the administration, the fight against corruption and the reform of the public sector. These advances have improved the quality of public services, accountability and citizen participation. In addition to the three leaders, Burkina Faso (22nd on the African scale) and Mali (24th) complete the march of the top 5 UEMOA. These countries, faced with major security and institutional challenges, are still struggling to strengthen their governance, although efforts are being made to improve administrative efficiency. This 2025 ranking constitutes a strategic reference for the Member States of UEMOA, called upon to redouble their efforts to consolidate governance, an indispensable lever for sustainable development.
