UNIJOS, Nigerian Army dismiss viral report of campus unrestĀ

The management of the University of Jos and the Nigerian military have dismissed a viral report claiming unrest and destruction on campus, describing it as false and misleading.

The report, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that ā€œstudent grievances had escalated into chaosā€ and suggested there was insecurity within the university. It was accompanied by an image purportedly showing violence at the institution.

However, checks with university authorities indicate that the situation remains calm, with normal academic and social activities continuing.

Officials further clarified that the image attached to the report was not genuine. According to findings, it was generated using artificial intelligence and does not depict any incident within or around the university.

A senior security source told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major General E.F. Oyinlola, personally led troops to the University of Jos after the report surfaced.

Authorities said the move was part of efforts to verify the claims and reassure students and staff of their safety, stressing that there is no security threat on campus.
