On Sunday, angry youths from Benue organized a protest and obstructed the Abuja-Makurdi highway in response to the ongoing violence in the area. The protesters, clad in black and carrying palm fronds and messages on placards, blocked the busy road, halting traffic and calling for immediate intervention to stop the violence. According to DAILY POST, the demonstration caused significant congestion and anxiety for travelers. This protest occurred shortly after armed herdsmen reportedly attacked Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, resulting in over 200 fatalities. The Benue State Government had previously warned against unlawful assemblies and confrontational actions, particularly among youths, due to rising tensions in the affected regions. Despite this appeal for tranquility, the youths expressed feelings of neglect and demanded effective security measures and justice for the victims of the violence.
