US: Trump gives federal workers two new holidays

United States President Donald Trump, on Thursday, signed an executive order to ensure that federal workers get a holiday on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and Boxing Day (Dec. 26) off from work.

Trump gave the executive order because Christmas falls on a Thursday this year, providing government workers with a five-day weekend.

“All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025, the day before and the day following Christmas Day, respectively,” the order stated as reported by Fox News.

The two additional holidays next week mark 13 federal holidays this year in the United States.

Meanwhile, during his first term, Trump granted federal workers Christmas Eve off in 2019 and 2020.

In those years, December 24 fell on a Tuesday and a Thursday, respectively.

In May this year, Trump declared national holidays on November 11 and May 8 to commemorate victories in World War I and World War II, respectively.
