The commissariat d’arrondissement de Pikine (banlieue dakaroise) was questioned on 31 August last, at around 8 p.m., by a fake police officer. The accused is placed in custody for “usurpation of office and fraud”, reports the newspaper Libération de ce mardi 2 septembre 2025. The accused, named Khalifa Babacar Dia (26 years old), tapissier et domicilié à Guédiawaye, presented himself to the victim I. Dieng (marchand ambulant d’accessoires de téléphones) au rond-point Dominique as being a police officer from the police station in Thiaroye. He accused the merchant of selling objects from a burglary.. According to the newspaper, he then seized the victim’s phone and forced her to withdraw 53 000 FCFA from her Wave account, in addition to her daily receipts of 4 000 FCFA. He then made him believe that the money would be paid in the police cash and invited him to present himself the next day at the commissariat de Thiaroye with his national identity card. However, A.
