Usyk Emphasizes the Need for Rest Following Victory Over Dubois

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has announced that he will take a break to spend quality time with his family after defeating Britain’s Daniel Dubois on Saturday, marking his second reign as an undisputed heavyweight champion. In the fifth round, Usyk knocked Dubois down twice, the second occurrence coming from a lunging left hook after Dubois missed a right punch. Usyk successfully holds onto his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles and reclaims the IBF title he had given up a little over a year ago. Additionally, the President of Ukraine has praised Usyk’s victory over Dubois, celebrating his status as an undoubted champion. In an interview with DAZN, Usyk praised Dubois for his performance but mentioned that he intends to take a break from fighting for the next three months. He added, “I apologize, Dubois, it’s just the nature of the sport.” “My people were eager for this victory,” Usyk stated to DAZN. “There’s nothing lined up after this.” That will suffice. Now, I would like to take a break. I wish to take a break now for my family, my spouse, and my kids. “I would like to take a break for two or three months.” Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) is now in the same group as fellow British fighters Fury and Joshua, both of whom have also been defeated twice by Usyk. Usyk, who became an undisputed world champion at cruiserweight, made the transition to a higher weight class six years ago.
