The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, is set to be flown abroad to seek medical care after falling ill.
A statement from the Presidency issued Sunday, March 30, revealed Opoku suffered a ‘ sudden illness’ after work on Friday, March 28, and visited the University of Ghana Medical Centre ( UGMC) on Saturday for treatment.
The declaration, signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, added that according to ‘ specialist medical opinion’, the Veep may be flown abroad to obtain additional treatment.
The speech read:” The Vice President, Her Majesty Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, received treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday due to a sudden illness that occurred after work on Friday, March 28, 2025″,
It concluded:” Based on expert physician judgment, she will be seeking additional attention worldwide. We wish the Vice President a rapid recovery”,
The media has raised questions about the government’s medical program, with Ghanaians unhappy over how politicians immediately fly internationally when they have a medical evacuation while leaving Ghanaians to the fate of our crumbling health system.
The NDC government has also faced claims of hypocrisy for lambasting previous government officials who travelled abroad to seek medical care.
